What is your recipe?

If you go online and type in recipes for effective leadership, quite a lot will come up.
Based on the many lessons learnt on our leadership journeys, books read and thoughts shared, this is OKAL’s recipe for effective leadership:

  1. A huge portion of Vision
Proverbs 29:18 says where there is no vision, people perish. Vision is necessary to give you and your team direction. From the vision, a strategy is formed with which to achieve various goals. With a vision you have a sense of purpose.
  2. A large helping of Communication
As a leader, your key role is communication. You communicate the vision, and the tasks that need to accomplished in order to achieve that vision. You are communicating to the team and to the individuals in the team when things need to be done and how. You build your teams through constructive feedback so that they can keep working toward the company’s or department’s goals.
  3. All the passion you have in your pantry
Passion keeps you motivated and enthusiastic so you can get to the finish line. It will help fuel your productivity.
  4. Double portions of Love
Put love into what you are doing and you will enjoy the journey so much more. Secondly, when a team feels valued and cared for, results improve.
  5. Several tablespoons of humour
‘Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face’ (Victor Hugo)
Work needs to be fun, so inject some laughter into it. It helps lighten the mood and creates comradeship with the team.

The great thing about recipes is; you can always adjust them to create the desired results you are looking for.
