Last Thursday we looked at the children’s fable about the three little pigs (https://lnkd.in/dvMCPbqg). From the story we established the importance of understanding your priorities and investing time and energy to achieve them. Today, I would like us to look at another old story. It is the story of the Three Masons.
An architect who had been commissioned to rebuild an old cathedral, is inspecting the work. As he is walking the site, he comes across three men building a wall. He stops to observe them and proceeds to speak to each of them.
To the first mason he asks, ‘what are you doing’? The mason responds ‘I am working hard laying bricks so I can put food on the table’. When he asks the second mason, he responds ‘I am building a wall’. The third mason when approached says brimming with energy and enthusiasm ‘I am building a Cathedral’.
Three men, doing exactly the same job at the same time, yet each had such a different perspective about the task they were doing. The first mason was focused only on the task at hand. The second felt that there was a slightly bigger picture to what he was doing, but he still limited himself to a wall. The third mason however, saw the bigger picture. He understood the vision and thus had a deep sense of purpose. He was building a Cathedral. Having that deep sense of purpose motivated him and as a result he worked with energy and passion.
My question to you today is as you wake up each morning, who are you being? The first mason who is doing a job purely as a means to an end? The second mason who knows they can do a lot more but is limiting himself to the task? Or are you the third mason, who has purpose and a vision for the future?
The mason you are being will impact on how you achieve your goals for 2022. Having a vision will help transform your attitude, increase your output and also improve on your results.
At the core of the story of the three masons is the importance of having a sense of Purpose.
